Coronavirus: Gov. Cuomo touts COVID-19 vaccine as "the weapon that is going to win the war"

"This is the weapon that is going to win the war," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters on Thursday, as he showed off a container and vials like the ones that will transport the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to the state when it is approved.

The vaccine has to be kept at a temperature of -70 C (94 F), significantly below the standard for vaccines of 2-8 C (36-46 F) and must be shipped in dry ice.

Cuomo said earlier in the week he expected about 170,000 doses of the vaccine later this month, once it is given emergency approval by the Food and Drug Administration for use.

The vaccine will be distributed initially to people who are at high risk for adverse effects from the novel coronavirus.
