Hundreds of Brazilians gathered in São Paulo on Sunday to protest the state government's plans to make a Chinese coronavirus vaccine mandatory.

People held signs reading "We aren't guinea pigs" and "My body belongs to me," in opposition to Gov. João Doria's plans to start vaccinating people in January if China's Sinovac vaccine receives regulatory approval by the end of the year.

Vaccine policy has led to a simmering debate between Doria and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who has said the government would not buy the specific COVID-19 vaccine in question. Sao Paulo's biomedical research centre, the Butantan Institute, is currently testing the vaccine.
