Queen Elizabeth II released a video statement Monday as the COP26 climate summit gets underway in Glasgow, Scotland. She said that the "time for words has now moved to the time for action" and called on world leaders to leave the conference as a community with a plan to address climate change.

The Queen also reminisced about her late husband, Prince Philip, saying addressing the impact of the environment on human progress was an issue close to his heart. She said in 1969 he told an academic gathering that if the world pollution situation wasn't critical at the time, it will become "increasingly intolerable" in a short time. She also said her son Prince Charles and his son Prince William have had the same drive to tackle climate change.

She also said she has "drawn great comfort and inspiration" from the enthusiasm of people, including youth, for calling on people to "do their part" and urged those attending COP26 to "rise above the politics of the moment" and take action.
