Civil service strikes: 'Government's workforce living in poverty'

Passport Office workers have begun a five-week strike in the increasingly bitter civil service dispute with the government over jobs, pay, pensions and conditions.

Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, has commented on the negotiation progress, asking "why are we now seeing this level of strikes and still the government will not pick up the phone?"
