Chinese President Xi Jinping secured his third term on Sunday, a precedent-breaking moment that also saw him introduce a new Politburo Standing Committee stacked with loyalists.
Among those he named to the committee, Li Qiang of the Shanghai Communist Party followed Xi onto the stage, meaning he is likely to succeed Li Keqiang as premier when he retires in March.
The re-election cemented Xi as the country's most powerful ruler since Mao Zedong. He was also reappointed Sunday as chairman of the Central Military Commission.
