In an eye-witness account of the horrors of China's re-education camps, Sayragul Sauytbay, an ethnic Kazakh woman, shares her story how she was imprisoned like other Muslim minorities in camps, China calls "vocational training centers". Her crime - being a Muslim minority in China's north-west.
The story of these camps in China's Xinjiang province has become clearer over the course of the last years. Set-up ostensibly, according to the Chinese government, to offer voluntary education and training, they house at least a million Uighur, Kazakh and other ethnic Muslim minorities. All, being 'de-radicalised' as part of China's measures to counter terrorism.
