China’s annual National People's Congress event has kicked off in Beijing, where leaders have announced a target of five percent economic growth for 2024 - far below the double-digit growth that once powered the Chinese economy. They also plan to increase defense spending by 7.2 percent - the same rate of increase as last year. But even China's Premier Li Qiang warned that achieving this year's targets will not be easy.
