China, US meeting for climate talks amid historic heat in 3 continents

Historic heat is gripping large swaths of Europe during the peak of the continent’s tourism season, with no end in sight for several countries.

Meanwhile in North America, Canada is struggling with its historic wildfire season, while in the southern U.S., Phoenix has seen temperatures of 43°C or higher for 19 days in a row, breaking the city’s 49-year-old record. And in Asia, much of Japan and China are under heat warnings due to the extreme weather.

As Redmond Shannon reports, finding common ground on climate action will be a key focus for talks in Beijing between U.S. and Chinese diplomats.
