Xi Jinping called China and Pakistan “good neighbours”, “good friends”, and “good partners” during his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Xi pledged support for Pakistan's social and economic development as the country grapples with a debt crisis, high inflation, and poverty. At a business forum, Sharif praised China’s development, noting its investment in youth, education, and health. The two leaders agreed to upgrade the $62B China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), despite security challenges. Chinese officials have urged Pakistan to improve the safety of Chinese nationals. Sharif’s visit also included signing 31 Memorandums of Understanding in various sectors.
