Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says that £55bn of tax rises and spending cuts will tame inflation and restore economic stability to the UK.

He admitted that there were "some mistakes" around the mini budget that harmed the economic outlook, but that were reversed within three weeks.

He maintained that the government was doing all it can to help families get through "a challenging period".
