The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday decided to remove the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief from his position.

According to sources, the meeting of the Election Commission on the current political situation concluded, giving the nod to prompt the process of removing the PTI chairman from his party leadership.

PTI moves Supreme Court against Toshakhana verdict

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf approached the Supreme Court on Monday to declare Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar’s judgement in Toshakhana case "null and void".

According to the petition filed by the PTI in accordance with Article 184(2) of the Constitution, the PTI chief wasn't granted a fair trial hence the Toshakhana case should be reheard.

“A fundamental right under Article 10A, The Right to a Fair Trial, has been denied to PTI chairman in relation to his conviction in the Toshakhana case," the petition read.

The PTI chief was detained and sent to Attock jail on August 5 after being found guilty by a district and sessions court in Toshakhana case.


IHC fixes for hearing PTI chairman's appeal to restore right of defence in Toshakhana case

The Islamabad High Court has fixed for hearing the request to restore the right of defence to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman in the Toshakhana case.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq will hear the appeal on August 10 to restore the right of defence to the former prime minister.

Taking politics to personal animosity harms state: Bilawal

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Monday it seemed the opposition did not learn from the past.

"Dragging politics to personal animosity harms the state and there is an urgent need for cooperation to resolve the issues affecting the nation," said Bilawal while addressing the National Assembly session.

The PPP chairman said, “Perhaps this will be the last session of the National Assembly mentioning that efforts should be made to move things towards reconciliation as the polls are near."
