"Ceasefire can't be one sided": Trudeau says Hamas cannot have role in future governance of Gaza

During a news conference in Vancouver, B.C., Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas "can't be one sided," and that Hamas cannot have any future role in the governance of Gaza.

"Hamas needs to lay down its arms. Hamas needs to free all the hostages they have right now," he added.

He also reiterated that Canada stands for a two-state solution.

"We cannot seek peace and stability and opportunity in the region until we have Israelis living in a secure Jewish state and Palestinians living their aspirations of a protected, safe, secure, prosperous Palestinian state recognized under international borders," he said.
