Cancer-causing chemicals banned in Canada for a decade are still being found in high levels in electronic devices, clothing and children's toys, according to a University of Toronto study.

The toxins were originally banned due to being harmful to the environment, as well as a “potential concern” for human health as “it was found to cause cancer in some experiments with laboratory animals.”

Katherine Ward explains the findings, why the compounds persist despite the ban, and how one retailer and Health Canada are responding to the research.
