The truckers who have brought Canada's capital to a standstill: The city of Ottawa is under a state of emergency after days of protests against COVID-19 vaccination mandates for truckers who cross the US-Canadian border.

Hundreds of 18-wheelers and private trucks known as the "Freedom Convoy" have blocked many of the major arteries leading in and out of downtown Ottawa. Residents are complaining of non-stop horn honking and local businesses have closed, taking an economic hit. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted that he is sending the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to help city police restore order.

But the anti-vaccination mandate movement of truckers appears to be spreading. Several key US-Canadian border crossings have been temporarily closed. And there are copycat convoys protesting in Australia and New Zealand and similar convoys reportedly being planned in the US and in Germany.
