Canadian government continues push for grocery code of conduct, Loblaw and Walmart hold out

Loblaw, Canada's largest retail conglomerate, is currently facing public backlash and pressures from elected officials to sign onto a grocery code of conduct.

Some Canadians are preparing actions against Loblaw, contesting with the high prices of groceries. Despite the federal government's push, Loblaw and Walmart — another top competitor in the country — are holding out from signing the code of conduct, which would set rules for negotiations between retailers and suppliers.

Meanwhile, Loblaw has seen two online campaigns emerge, asking people to boycott its stores during May, or to steal items off of their shelves.
