Nick Bontis has stepped down as Canada Soccer's president over widespread criticism for how the sport's governing body handled increasingly bitter labour disputes with players.

The men’s national team went on strike in June 2022 by refusing to play a World Cup tune-up match against Panama, while the women’s squad protested in various methods while playing in last month’s SheBelieves Cup.
