Canada finalizing plans on how to honour Afghanistan mission veterans

A government-appointed panel that is planning a permanent monument in Ottawa for those who served Canada during its military mission in Afghanistan has narrowed down design submissions to five finalists.

Canada's military involvement in Afghanistan began in 2001 and lasted 13 years— the country's longest military engagement in history. In that time, around 40,000 Canadian solders ended up serving there, while 165 of them lost their lives.

As Ross Lord explains, deciding how to pay tribute to their service and their sacrifice is no simple task.
