Without treatments available, some are turning to social media-based remedies for relief, with the latest trend being nicotine patches.

Researchers found potential in nicotine's anti-inflammatory properties back in 2020, and the current trend is based on a 2023 study. But experts caution there may not be enough data and urge people not to trust information online without fact-checking.
