Across the globe, an extremely hot summer is fueling an aggressive fire season, and climatologists expect the number of blazes to rise and grow in intensity. In order to fight the flames, some countries are thinking outside the box, turning to wild animals.
In Canada, a herd of goats has come back year over year since 2018 to help clear land for firefighters in Lethbridge, Alta. Researchers found, as humans began to dominate, the extinction of large or mega herbivores correlated to an increase in fire activity.
But experts warn that using modern day mammals as mowers may only help in specific situations.
