Grocery shopping has always been a bit of a chore, but for Vanessa Molloy, it’s now become a game – one she just can’t seem to win.

“I go in and spend a hundred dollars on it and I look at it and I go…18 months ago I would have got double this for a hundred dollars,” she tells Global News. “Gas is more expensive, my car insurance is more expensive, suddenly groceries are more expensive, and any budgeting I had has gone out the window,” the 39-year-old said.

Molloy, a working single parent is not alone. Thousands of British Columbians are struggling to make ends meet in metro Vancouver.
