Budget 2024: What can we expect this week?

This could be the final set-piece economic event for the government before the general election.

The chancellor told Sky News that Wednesday's budget would be "prudent and responsible", playing down calls from the right of the party for tax cuts.

Speaking on Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, he said large cuts and unfunded borrowing would be "deeply unconservative".
