Three states of Civil Emergency, this year alone. Five in a year and a half. Homes gone, roads gone, crops gone, communities reeling. The Tairawhiti region on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island is again under attack from extreme weather.

But this time the damage looks deeper and more ominous than ever. For the 50.000 people living in that part of the country, what does the future hold for them? And how will this affect the food they grow there, which feed the rest of us?
