Bristol Mayor concerned about 'brave' friend Alexei Navalny

The Mayor of Bristol has expressed his concern for Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was recently sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison.

Marvin Rees, who became friends with Navalny when they were students together at Yale, said: "The integrity, commitment and bravery of Alexei is being shown on the world stage."

He added that it will be up to Russian citizens, and the wider world, to "judge" the outspoken Putin critic - and he hopes people will "see through" the actions of the Kremlin.
