Brexit divorce deal threatens United Kingdom's unity

Friday marked the first day in 48 years that the U.K. no longer has to follow European Union rules or regulations.

Britain left the European bloc’s vast single market for people, goods and services at 11 p.m. London time on New Year’s Eve, in the biggest single economic change the country has experienced since World War II.

The Brexit process took almost five years, and cost two prime ministers their jobs.

For Brexit supporters, the move away from the European Union is all about independence. But as Redmond Shannon reports, the terms of its divorce deal threaten the unity of the U.K.
