Blinken tells Russia: "No trade space" on Ukraine’s right to determine its own future

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered a message to Russia following his meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday, saying the U.S. is committed to defending Ukraine’s right to “write its own future.”

“There is no trade space there. None,” he said.

Lavrov, meanwhile, said the dialogue with the U.S. and its allies would continue following Friday’s meeting and that it expected a written response from Washington regarding Russia’s “security demands.”

He said he hoped “emotions would cool down” and claimed that Russia posed no threat to Ukraine.

For his part, Blinken said the U.S. was committed to “finding a way forward through diplomacy and dialogue,” but warned that Russia would be met with “massive consequences” should it choose a path of conflict and confrontation.
