Bitcoin has hit a record price of more than $44,000 a unit after electric car giant Tesla said it would invest $1.5bn in the cryptocurrency.
Founder Elon Musk also said the car manufacturer would soon begin accepting payments in the digital currency.
And that its investment in bitcoin and other alternative assets may grow.
