US President Joe Biden has called the fight over voting rights "the test of our time" and accused Republican legislators of attempting to subvert the electoral process.
Several Republican states are trying to introduce a controversial bill that would make it more difficult for Americans to vote.
Texas is not the only state where Republicans are trying to bring in similar laws; others include Georgia, Arizona and Florida.
Democrats say proposals to limit voting rights will disproportionately affect minorities, who usually vote Democrat.
