U.S. President Joe Biden hosted a bill signing ceremony Monday afternoon to hail his administration's signature accomplishment thus far: the bipartisan infrastructure deal known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The president was joined by members of Congress and by a diverse group of leaders including governors, mayors, labor union and business leaders.

Ahead of signing the US$1.2-trillion infrastructure bill into law, Biden explained what this bill means for Americans. He said that having this bill signed into law will lead to more jobs across the nation, better internet access, no more lead pipes, among other things.

Later in the day, Biden and China’s Xi Jinping will hold their first presidential meeting. The troubled U.S.-China relationship is demonstrating that the power of one of Biden’s greatest professed strengths as a politician — the ability to connect — has its limits.
