U.S. President Joe Biden concluded the U.S.-Africa leaders summit on Thursday in Washington, D.C., by announcing his support for the African Union joining the G20 group of large economies as a permanent member.
It comes as Washington continues to try and reinvigorate ties with a region that has taken a back seat to other priorities in recent years.

"Africa belongs to the table in every room, in every room where global challenges are being discussed and, in every institution, where discussions are taking place," he told those in attendance.

Biden also announced he would work with Congress to commit US$55 billion in Africa to advance the priorities shared. He also announced an additional $2 billion in humanitarian assistance to address acute food insecurity.
