U.S. President Joe Biden called on Americans to reject the “poison of white supremacy" in a speech after meeting with families of victims of the Buffalo mass shooting.

Biden blamed mass media, politics and the internet for radicalizing individuals into believing they will be replaced by “the other” and committing hate crimes.

He also described the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism” but said it will be difficult to push any gun control measures through congress.

The FBI is investigating the incident as racially-motivated hate crime. The 18-year-old suspect is a white male who had driven to the city heavily armed with an intent to target Black residents, posting a manifesto about his plan, and live streaming the assault.

He is in custody and has been charged with 1st-degree murder.
