A national Voodoo Day festival is being held in Benin, the West African country widely seen as the birthplace of voodoo.
The celebrations started with the ritual sacrifice of a goat.
The festival also includes a procession to the Atlantic Ocean to pay respect to enslaved ancestors taken away from Benin.

Al Jazeera's @AhmedIdris reports from the celebrations in Ouidah, Benin.
