The Surrey School District has quietly pulled four books from the reading curriculum for Grade 10 and above due to concerns over controversial themes.

The books being pulled are: ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee, ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck, ‘The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian’ by Sherman Alexie and ‘In the Heat of the Night’ by John Ball.

The board says the decision was made following a review after hearing from parents and others in the community.

Travis Prasad has more on the decision and the reaction its sparked.
