A B.C. judge has ordered a “disgruntled customer” who posted negative online reviews to pay the business $90,000 in a defamation suit brought by the company’s owners.

Moila Jenkins and Brian Jenkins, who own Premier Finance Ltd, which does business as Longhouse Specialty Forest Products, Longhouse Forest Products and Longhouse Cedar, filed a suit against former customer Tyler Ginther after they said his negative reviews adversely impacted their business.

After a business transaction between the Jenkins’ and Ginther went sour, he posted multiple reviews accusing them of being “fraudulent, cheating and deceitful” and claimed the business was a “scam.”

As Emad Agahi reports, ruling is a warning for anyone posting negative reviews online.
