Protesters in Bangladesh have condemned the jail term given to the acting chairman of the main opposition party.

Tarique Rahman lives in exile and was convicted of corruption in absentia.

Thousands of supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took to the streets, saying the trial was politically motivated.
