A steep increase in the cost of living in the United Kingdom has led to a rise in cases of what's being called “economic abuse”.
Charities say this is being experienced by as many as 8.5 million adults.

Economic abuse happens when a person’s ability to acquire, use and maintain financial resources is taken away by someone else in a coercive or controlling way. It was criminalised in the UK in 2021.
