Hundreds of thousands of people in Argentina have come out on the streets in defence of democracy. It follows an attempted assassination of the vice president, Cristina Fernandes de Kirchner. A man pointed a loaded gun at her at point-blank range on Thursday night but it didn't go off.
The President declared Friday a national holiday, to show solidarity with her.
