"Are we related?" Biden jokes with India's Modi in 1st in-person meeting

U.S. President Joe Biden joked with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a moment of levity during their first face-to-face meeting on Friday in Washington, D.C.

"Oh, are we related?" Biden asked in regards to the same surnames in India after Modi "brought along a set of documents" about tracking the Biden ancestry in the country.

Modi told reporters the foundation has been set for a "transformative" relationship between the two countries.

Biden, Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison later met as the "Quad" group at the White House in the afternoon to discuss COVID-19 vaccines, infrastructure and technological cooperation.
