India is now the fourth-worst Covid-hit country worldwide after the number of active cases rose to 9,79,608. The death toll stood at 1,67,642, the Health Ministry said.
The country's financial capital reeled under a massive shortage of the Covid-19 vaccines, with several government and private inoculation centres downing shutters temporarily
"Many vaccination centres in Mumbai have come down to zero doses now and inoculations have been stopped there. We understand that between 75,000-1,00,000 doses may be received this evening and await official confirmation," Mumbai mayor Pednekar told mediapersons.
