The penguins in Antarctica are under threat.

Studies in 2023 reveal not a single emperor penguin chick survived spring in parts of the icy continent.

Ice loss isn’t returning at the rates it should be, and new research has found it is likely resulting in thousands of the chicks dying.

Their survival mechanism of love and partnership is not enough to quash the real threat of global warming.

In 2005, 60 Minutes spoke with French film director Luc Jacquet about his award-winning documentary, ‘March of the Penguins’ - a story that highlights their resilience.

But despite their survival in harsh and blustery conditions, global warming is jeopardising their habitat and their existence - a point made by Jacquet more nearly 20 years ago.
