Amazon to cut 18,000 staff, almost doubling layoffs announced last year

Amazon has more than 1.5 million workers globally and the 18,000 layoffs announced Thursday represent roughly one per cent of that workforce. The impending round of layoffs will largely impact workers in the company's e-commerce and human resources operations, the company said.
