Alzeheimer’s breakthrough reveals specific gene causes 15-20% of cases

For the first time, researchers have found that people who inherit a specific gene from both their parents are virtually guaranteed to develop Alzheimer's disease as older adults.

Before this discovery, researchers could only identify the cause of Alzheimer's in less than one per cent of cases. Now, that number is between 15 and 20 per cent.

Global’s Nivrita Ganguly spoke to the doctor who led this Barcelona study to find out what this means for early detection and prevention of the mind-robbing disease.
