Kaycee Madu has been stripped of his duties as Alberta's justice minister, after news emerged he phoned Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee about a distracted driving ticket.

"I will appoint a respected independent investigator to review the relevant facts and to determine whether there was interference in the administration of justice in this case," Premier Jason Kenney tweeted late Monday night. "In the interim period, I have asked Minister Madu to step back from his ministerial duties."

Tom Vernon reports on Madu's explanation for the call and the questions facing Kenney over the incident.
