An Alberta couple became de facto firefighters when they could not afford to keep crews on scene.
In late January, stray ash caused a fire on the Alberta property of Samantha and Dale Zemlack, igniting a propane tank.
For 24-hours, volunteer fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze inside the structure.
In the middle of the lengthy battle, Zemlack says the fire chief asked if they had insurance, because things were getting expensive.
The couple released the crew, and signed paperwork to accept responsibility to watch over the propane tank themselves.
Morgan Black has the rest of the story on how the fire has left the family on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars.
