The Vanderburg County Sheriff's office said during a news conference on Tuesday that a former Alabama jail official and an inmate that she was accused of helping escape had a cache of weapons when they were caught by U.S. Marshall's in Evansville, Indiana the day before.

Former prison officer Vicky White, 56, shot and killed herself when authorities caught up with the pair while inmate Casey White surrendered to police. Vandenburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding said that in interviews with Casey White afterwards, he had told police that "he was probably going to have a shoot-out at the stake of both of them losing their lives."

Sheriff Wedding shared a picture of the arsenal of weapons they found in the crashed vehicle, saying "any one of these weapons could have been used to ambush our officers while they were attempting to capture a murder suspect."

The death of Vicky White only deepened the mystery of why a respected jail official would leave everything to help free Casey White, 38, a hulking inmate with a violent and frightening history.
