The three men convicted in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery were sentenced Friday to life in prison, with father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael each receiving no possibility of parole. The third man, William "Roddie" Bryan was granted a chance of parole, but must first serve at least 30 years in prison.

Murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison under Georgia law, unless prosecutors seek the death penalty, which they opted against for Arbery's killing. Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley said the main decision was whether to grant any of the men the eventual chance to earn parole.

In November, the three men were found guilty in Arbery's murder. Gregory and Bryan were both found guilty of felony murder as well, while Travis was convicted not only of felony murder but also the most serious count of malice murder. The three were also each convicted of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
