The US is poised to ban TikTok unless the social media app cuts its ties to China. US lawmakers overwhelmingly voted for a bill which forces the Chinese owner to sell the app to an owner from a country other than China or face a total ban. The US is that the social media service could be used to collect American citizens' personal data and that it poses a threat to national security. China has protested, saying it's unfair to use those arguments to bring down the competitive advantage of other countries.
