Actress, singer and fashion icon Jane Birkin has died in Paris at the age of 76, according to French media.

The London-born star, who is best known for her personal and artistic collaboration with then-husband Serge Gainsbourg and lending her name to the Hermes Birkin designer handbag, was described as "a French icon" and "she embodied freedom" by French president Emmanuel Macron.
