Police provided an update on Tuesday after four law enforcement officers were killed and four others were wounded in a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina while trying to serve a warrant Monday afternoon.
The suspect left the house while armed, police said, and officers opened fire and shot him in the front yard, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified by police as Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., 39.
During a press conference on Tuesday, police chief Johnny Jennings identified the deceased officers as well as provided an update on the ongoing investigation. An AR-15 rifle along with ammo was recovered from the scene.
"It's a scar on Charlotte, but it's a scar that won't heal," Jennings said of the tragedy.
