Six cases of the mutant coronavirus strain - first reported in the UK in September - have been reported in India. All six patients recently travelled to the UK, where cases have spiralled in the last few weeks. The patients have been kept in single-room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by the state governments. Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers and others. While the new strain is believed to be highly infectious, doctors have said there is no reason yet to believe that it is more lethal or will not be controlled by a vaccine.
