12-year-old Alabama girl escapes captivity, leads police to 2 bodies resulting in arrest

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett spoke Tuesday in Alabama about finding a 12-year-old girl walking along a road after she had escaped captivity on Monday. He said from information gathered, they were able to make an arrest of a man, who is facing charges of multiple counts of capital murder and kidnapping in the first-degree.

Through the investigation, authorities also found two decomposed bodies at the same residence the man was arrested.

According to an affidavit, the girl had been given alcohol to keep her in a drugged state, and she had suffered an assault in the head. It also said she had broken her restraints by chewing out of them after being restrained to bed posts for about a week.

Abbett called the girl a "hero," and said she had been discovered by a passing motorist who called 911. He said she received medical attention.
